Description

The Department provides a broad range of graduate programs for education professionals interested in teaching, administration and research positions in postsecondary education including community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities, as well as adult education and workforce development providers. Specializations include Adult and Community College Education, Higher Education (including Student Affairs), Workforce and Human Resource Education, Education Policy and Research, and Educational Leadership (K-12). 

Degrees Offered

M.S., M.Ed., Ph.D., and an Executive Cohort weekend Ed.D. program in Charlotte, NC. Online graduate certificates in community college teaching, e-learning, and training and development are also offered. Related Courses: Improvement Science, Change Management, Organizational Behavior, Leadership, Administrative issues in Community Colleges, Current issues in Community Colleges, Community Colleges, Workforce Development, Evaluation, Social Justice and Diversity courses.

The department offers a Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) influenced weekend cohort based education doctorate that integrates AACC and Aspen Institute competencies. The mission of this program is to develop mid and senior level executive leaders for community colleges. This program has been redesigned as part of the Envisioning Excellence for Community College Leadership program (https://envisioningexcellence.ced.ncsu.edu/). The program includes a dissertation in practice integrated in the 3 year program. The courses include design thinking, improvement science, change management, organizational behavior, leadership, administrative issues in community colleges, current issues in community colleges, workforce development, evaluation, and research methods.
